Kopfzentrum Bielefeld

Research laboratory

Kopfzentrum Bielefeld has its own research laboratory. It is fully equipped for histological, cell-biological and molecular-biological work and allows research questions to be pursued directly at the clinic.

01

Histology and cryosections

Tissue samples are processed in the laboratory, cut into thin sections and stained. A cryosection is cut from frozen tissue and can therefore be assessed within a short time.

02

Cell culture

Cells are grown under sterile conditions and used for experimental questions. Cell culture provides the basis for studies of cell behaviour and tissue responses.

03

qPCR and gradient cycler

Quantitative PCR (qPCR) is used to detect and measure genetic material. The gradient cycler runs different temperatures in parallel during a single cycle, supporting assay development and optimisation.

04

High-resolution microscopy

A modern Keyence research microscope provides high-resolution images, including fluorescence measurements across several channels. The images are evaluated and archived on a monitor.

05

Flow cytometry (FACS)

A FACS analyser measures individual cells in suspension and can sort defined cell populations. Cell mixtures can therefore be separated according to defined characteristics and studied further.
