First VOIS vocal cord implantation in North Rhine-Westphalia

Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Dr. Holger Sudhoff, the APrevent VOIS implant system was used for the first time in North Rhine-Westphalia at Kopfzentrum Bielefeld. It treats glottic insufficiency, for example in unilateral vocal cord paralysis.

The implant moves the vocal fold into a more favourable position; an inflatable silicone cushion allows fine adjustment of voice quality after surgery. The procedure was also attended by the developer Dr. Guan Min Ho as well as Ersoy Özbey and Felix Zimmermann.
